Packers Vs. Eagles Week 1

 Is This The Packers Year?

How we got here

The 2023 season left Packers fans hopeful for a bright future under emerging quarterback Jordan Love. While his first season as a starter began shakily, fans likely questioned whether moving on from  Aaron Rodgers was the right choice and whether the team might face years of mediocrity. However, Love silenced those doubts by turning his season around, posting some of the league’s best quarterback numbers in the second half of the year. His efforts led the Packers to a dominant playoff victory over the Dallas Cowboys, further proving that he is going to be the GUY in Green Bay.

Week 1

The road to the playoffs for every team starts here, Week 1 of the 2024 NFL season. Although one win or one loss does not shape a team’s season, we will quickly be able to tell which teams will be true contenders. For the Packers, that road does not start easy by any means. The Philadelphia Eagles, coming off a disappointing first-round exit from the 2023 playoffs, only got stronger, signing one of the league’s best running backs in Saquon Barkley to go alongside a solid QB and one of the best receiving corps.

As the game started, something seemed a little off for both teams. There seemed to be more slipping and falling than normal, likely a result of the NFL hosting that game in Brazil, at a stadium that has never hosted American football. The game was pretty even heading into halftime as the Packers held a slim two-point lead. In the second half, the Eagles leaned heavily on their run game, and the Packers’ defense was just not able to keep up. That being said, the Eagles led for the majority of the second half. However, in the last minute of the game, there was still time for Jordan Love to lead the Packers down for a game-winning drive with no time left on the clock.

With six seconds left on the clock, Love dropped back to pass and was brought down awkwardly and was seen grimacing on the ground, reaching for his leg. Malik Willis would come in for the final plays of the game, but there was just not enough time left to put the ball into the end zone, resulting in an Eagles 34-29 victory over the Packers.
